On Victimization…
I’ve spent too much of my life being a victim. But we usually assume that someone else makes you a victim. Has it ever occurred to us that we can choose to be a victim? I think more people decide to be a self-pitying victim out of their own volition than they’d like to admit. Why?
Could it be because we don’t really believe we can be whole people? If you’re not a whole person, then the only other options you have left are to be a religious person, a rebellious person, or a victim. If you don’t believe you can be whole, the most appealing thing to be would be a victim, wouldn’t it? Let’s just be whole people, instead!
